

Junior Barbecue Cooking Contest

Dates: Thursday, May 15 and Friday, May 16
Location: Liberty Park
Number of Teams: 25 Maximum
Age Limitations: 9-17 years of age
Space: 15’x15’ per team
Categories: Pork Chop, Ribeye Steak, Chicken Legs/Thighs, and Dessert
Turn In Times: 11:00 am and 1:00 pm
Entry Fees: $500 includes all 4 categories
Entry Fee Deadline: April 30, 2025, or until all spots are filled
Prizes!
Cash Prizes: First $1,500 per category, Second $750 per category, Third $500 per category, Fourth $250 per category.
Grand Champion: $3,000 ($15,000). Must turn in entries in all 4 categories to be eligible for Grand Champion.
Golden Ticket: Grand Champion receives Golden Ticket to the WFC as well as each category winner. One Golden Ticket per team.

Rules:
• Each team may include up to 3 individuals between the ages of 9-17.
• Each team will designate a Pitmaster.
• Designated Pitmaster is required to attend daily Cook’s meeting.
• Teams may not have adults in their team space during the competition except for pre-approved persons such as mentors and MIM staff.
• Teams may only use proteins provided by MIM.
• Teams must use grills(s) provided by MIM.
• All entries must be prepared with a wood and/or charcoal fire. Electrical devices may be used within the cooker if they do not directly generate heat.
• Approved devices include rotisseries, fans, and delivery systems for approved fuels. Electric smokers, holding ovens, or other devises with heat producing electrical coils are not allowed.
• Blind Judging criteria will include Appearance, Tenderness, Flavor and Overall Impression.
• Complete rules will be made available March 1.
